Each year, for the past two years, music students of Strathalbyn Christian College in Geraldton Western Australia have been writing and releasing a song online as a part of a class project. This project aims to teach students about the art of musical composition and raises funds for different mission organisations.
The year 11/12 music class of 2012 wrote and recorded Salmu (strathalbynchristiancollege.bandcamp.com/track/salmu
) in order to fund-raise the building of a roof at the Garden of Hope Pre-Primary School in Gleno, East Timor. The proceeds from this song contributed to the building of the roof. The lyrics of the song were based on Psalm 98 and they fitted wonderfully with the beautiful countryside of East Timor.
In 2013 the year 11/12 music class wrote and recorded onethreenine (strathalbynchristiancollege.bandcamp.com/track/onethreenine
). This song was based on Psalm 139 and spoke of God's knowledge of us and his care for the whole of creation. The proceeds of this song were sent to a friend of the college's who is working in East Timor with the mission organization Youth With a Mission (YWAM).
This year the Year 10 Music students composed this song from the famous Psalm 119:9-16, particularly verse 11: "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you". The year 10 students have worked hard over this term to put these verses to song and learn the different elements of musical composition and recording. In mid July 2014 the Year 10's of Strathalbyn Christian College will be heading to the Western Australian town of Carnarvon as part of a mission trip to serve that community. The music students who wrote this song will perform in various locations around Carnarvon as part of their mission activities.
The sales of this song, and the other two songs both here and on iTunes, will go towards the three mission organisations our school has chosen to support this year; Casa Vida (in Bali and East Timor) and Samaritans Purse.
We hope this song is a great encouragement. Enjoy!
